CITATION TO ACCOMPANY THE AWARD OF

THE COAST GUARD AUXILIARY COMMENDATION MEDAL
TO
(GEORGE WASHINGTON)

UNITED STATES COAST GUARD AUXILIARY

Auxiliarist (GEORGE WASHINGTON) is cited for outstanding achievement in support of the United States Coast Guard and Coast Guard Auxiliary from 1989 to present.  Throughout this period Auxiliarist (WASHINGTON) repeatedly demonstrated exceptional leadership skills while acting in a variety of positions intended to strengthen both his Flotilla and Division. Over the years, he successfully served in the capacity of Flotilla Commander, Vice Flotilla Commander and many Staff Officer positions to include Operations, Member Training and Public Education. During the last four years, Auxiliarist (WASHINGTON) served with distinction while acting as the Division 7 Public Affairs Officer.  When asked, Auxiliarist (WASHINGTON) eagerly created innovative programs which focused on delivering the Water Safety Message to a diverse audience.  As part of his ongoing initiative to emphasize education, he established the Children’s Water Festival at the Sylvan Campus of Portland Community College. When the Daughters of Neptune expressed their interest in taking the Water Safety Program, Auxiliarist (WASHINGTON) ensured that they all were able to pass the required tests and receive their Boater Education Identification Cards. Auxiliarist (WASHINGTON) is an effective Instructor in Advanced Coastal Navigation, Boating Safety and Seamanship and qualified as an instructor for the State of Oregon Boater Safety Program.  Auxiliarist (WASHINGTON) has volunteered over 250 hours on patrol, during one of these patrols on the Columbia River shortly after 9/11; he observed and reported a boat with foreign seamen attempting to get ashore. He continues to contribute when and where he is needed, Auxiliarist (WASHINGTON) is a vital part of the fabric that makes the Auxiliary such a success.  Auxiliarist (WASHINGTON)’s spirit of volunteerism, diligence, leadership, and devotion to duty are most heartily commended and are in keeping with the highest traditions of the United States Coast Guard and Coast Guard Auxiliary.
